To Daffodils

http://images.msoms-anime.com/images/55978daffodils-tree-stump2.jpg

FAIR daffodils, we weep to see
;You haste away so soon
As yet the early-rising sun
.Has not attain'd his noon
Stay, stay
Until the hasting day
Has run
;But to the evensong
And, having pray'd together, we
.Will go with you along

.We have short time to stay, as you
;We have as short a spring
As quick a growth to meet decay
.As you, or anything
We die
As your hours do, and dry
Away
;Like to the summer's rain
Or as the pearls of morning's dew
.Ne'er to be found again

I 1591- 1674

To Daffodils" is a poem written by Robert Herrick"
It is about a shortness of flower's life as a shortness of a good thing's life

The flowers come early and leave early to show it have a short time
Not only the daffodils, but also the hasting day
The speaker likens a short time of life as a short time of spring
Also as a summer's rain and morning dew

Short explanation

FAIR daffodils, we weep to see
;You haste away so soon

As yet the early-rising sun
.Has not attain'd his noon

Stay, stay
Until the hasting day
Has run
;But to the evensong
And, having pray'd together, we
.Will go with you along

.We have short time to stay, as you
;We have as short a spring
As quick a growth to meet decay
.As you, or anything

We die
As your hours do, and dry
Away
;Like to the summer's rain
Or as the pearls of morning's dew
.Ne'er to be found again

Death be not proud

http://images.msoms-anime.com/images/173280060929898_jjgunther.jpg

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
;Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
.Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow
And soonest our best men with thee do go
.Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men

;And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell

And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well

?And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then

One short sleep past, we wake eternally
.And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die

II 1572 -1631

"Death be not proud" is a poem written by John Donne
John Donne is a leader of metaphysical poets

The speaker talks to death that you should not be proud of yourself.
Some people think you are mighty and dreadful
He tells that those whom Death thinks it kills do not truly die.
Rest and sleep are a kind of death, but they are pleasurable.

Thou art slave to fate: he personified Death to be slave
These two things poppy and charms also can make us sleep and rest but they are better than death
So why are you proud?O
Finally, we came to life again after death. We wake to eternally life. Then, he says Death you shall die not us

Short explanation

In my opinion, there are different between these two poems in thinking and thought.
One of them thinks that all things will face death whereas the other thinks that death is not the end.
It is clear that John Donne's thoughts likes in one side the thoughts of Islam about death but is it John Donne's believe?O
I think Donne feared death. So, he tried to get himself strength by writing this poem

Do you agree with me?o

.I wish that you get information and feel interesting with reading poetry
.Thank you for reading

...Hi, shooog

!I don't know what to say, I'm impressed

You are at an advanced and improved level in
...choosing the subject and in presenting it

.Poetry, an art shows how its creator expresss his feelings

.I see that you have chosen an important fact to present, Death

Death, of course, has a different shapes to the people
.depending on many facts such as believes and habits

,These two whom you mentioned their poems
,I beleive that they live under different kind of life
:so that is why

there are different between these two poems in thinking and thought

...Thank you shooog for your unique topic
^^ I'm looking forward for what you hide for us

Thank you for reading the subject
Nice to see you here

Also, I don't know what to say too, thank you

About the poetry, I like the second one than the first.
The second has factual emotions which are expressed by his deep fright.
This is what I think and what it really happened after this poem.

Thank you AIKEN

Thank you shoog for this great topic
The way you presented the two poems attracted my atention alot

As for me. I prefered the first poem
I felt that the comparrision between human and the daffofils
was appropriate.
The poet shows that the the flower won't die alone
Even man dies.
The difference is between the period of each one's life
In fact, I enjoyed reading it alot

The second poem was great too
The poet has a challenging character
Even that the he might die any moment
because Death can take his life, he wasn't afraid from it
And he was misunderstimating the power of death
by comparing it with charms and poppy

Thank you for these great poems shoog
:) And I'm looking forward to seeing your next topics
