Hi.
I was wondering about the meaning of the word "exospecies",
it is used by humans (in a anime series) to describe giant rats that have gone through mutation.
I've looked it up in some dictionaries and found out that "exo" basically means "out of" or something like that, but how does that apply to "exospecies"?
Also, maybe this would help: the word "mutants" is used instead of exospecies in another translation, I know what the former means, but not the latter.

‎Hi‎!‎
‎It seems that "exospecies" is not a real word. But it was formed (by the translator probably) to look like an actual scientific term‎.‎
‎As you seem to know, exo- is a prefix meaning out of or outer, ex.: exoskeleton, exocytosis, exocrine glands‎...‎
‎So, exospecies pretty much means species that are different from ours‎. ‎
The exact meaning will depend on context and usage‎.
