Those 're some idioms. i hope I'm not repeating someone's else post;
1-Put one's foot down : take firm & determined action
2- Put one's best foot forward : proceed as quickly as possible
3- A fool proof: so simple & strong that even a fool can't use it wrongly or break it
4- a fool's errand : a useless journey

It is true that idioms usually do not receive a big attention

and also they are not a big part of the formal structure

However, they are still a vital part of the language

^^ and we must have a good background about them



Here is a funny idiom which I like very much:

Though the topic is dusty somehow and there are almost more than 6 months between each two posts
