الحمد لله رب العالمين .. و صلى و سلم و بارك و زاد على عبده و رسوله و خليله محمد بن عبد الله - سيدنا و حبيبنا و قدوتنا و إمامنا - و على آله و صحبه و التابعين لهم بإحسان إلى يوم الدين ..

STRESS in words and sentences is saying particular parts of words and sentences so it sounds more obvious than the other parts ..

.. " And there's something important to know in this case .. That is " syllables

Syllables are the parts of words .. And each syllable has one vowel letter ( a, e, i, o or u ) .. Or sometimes more .. But we say them with each other .. Or sometimes there are more .. And we say them independentally ..

: Examples

stress, good, cloud, shine and here

are one-syllable words .. And

bet-ter, cra-zy and hu-man

are two-syllable words .. And

comp-u-ter, sci-en-tic and cri-ti-cal

are three-syllable words ... etc

.. STRESS in words has two sample main rules

1- There isn't any word that has two STRESSes : Each English word has one STRESS in it .. So, if you hear two STRESSes, you hear two words .. ( Sometimes som words have two STRESSes .. But the secondary STRESS is smaller than the primary STRESS .. Also, it doesn't happened except in ling words ) ..

2- We can STRESS vowels .. Not consonants : So, in the words " good " - for example - we STRESS the sound of " oo " .. We do not STRESS the letters " g " and " d " ..

And to know wich syllable to STRESS, here are some - little complicated ^ ^" - rules for STRESS in words

1- STRESS in one-syllable words : The whole word is STRESSed .. Because there isn't any syllable but this one ^ ^" .. Such as

GOOD, SHINE, SOAP, GIVE, PLAY ... etc

.. For Hearing

2- : STRESS in two-syllable words

* In the most of two-syllable nouns, we STRESS the first syllable .. Such as

PREsent, EXport, IMport ... etc

.. For hearing too

* In the most of two syllable adjectives, we STRESS the first syllable too .. Such as

HAPpy, CRAzy, CLEver ... etc

.. Again, for hearing

* In the most of two-syllable verbs, we STRESS the second syllable .. Such as

imPORT ( the verb ), deCIDE, beGIN ... etc

.. Also, for hearing

3- STRESS in penultimate syllable ( the syllable before the last one ) :

It comes in words that attached with " ic ", " sion " or " tion " at the end .. Such as

GRAPHic, teleVIsion, desCRIPtion ... etc

.. Etc

4- STRESS in ante-penultimate syllable ( the third one from the end ) :

When a word is tagged with " cy ", " ty ", " phy ", " gy " or " al " at the end, we STRESS the third syllable - from the end of the word - .. Such as

geOlogy, geOgraphy, POlicy, iDEntity, psycoLOgical ... etc

( He's realy bored now XDDD >>> ) ...

5- STRESS in compound words ( words with two parts ) :

: When a word is formed from two parts, we STRESS as the following

* In compound nouns, we put the STRESS on the first part .. Such as

GREENhouse, BLACKbird, ICEland ... etc

( For hearing .. ( <<< He's recovering now XDDD

* In compound adjectives, we put the STRESS the on second part .. Such as

high-TEMpered, good-DEED ... etc

.. For hearing

* In compound verbs, we put the STRESS on the second part .. Such as

underSTAND, overJUMP ... etc

.. For hearing

Note : All above this note is

USELESS

!!!

XDDD

.. Actually, although they are rules, there are some excpetions

.. And best to do is listening to the native speakers talking to what is STRESSed and is not

( " By the way " practise : The word " useless " from wich kind of words we just talked about ?!?!?!?!?!? .. You have to answer, bro !!! .. )

Note : STRESS in sentences depends on the main frame of it .. Or on the wanted meaning of it .. such as

In the title of this topic, I wrote " in WORDS and SENTENCES ", because those two things are the intended in this topic ..

.. For hearing

.. That's it .. And you can apply this in all sentences

.. Another note : We keep STRESS in words in sentences too

Indeed, STRESS isn't exclusive for English .. You can notice STRESS in other languages, including Arabic ..

But - as a forign language - we learn STRESS in English because we maybe miss it .. So, our speaking English won't be so perfect ^ ^" ..

Even in The Holy Qur'an we should always use STRESS, because STRESS plays an important part of right way to say words - Of course it is very necessary in The Holy Qur'an - and showing the right meaning of sentences ..

.. ?!? Can you imagin if you speak English without these rules of STRESS

: So, we'll say these words like this

hapPY, craZY, televiSION, poLIcy, psyCOlogical

.. For hearing

.. Oh, man .. That's a realy bad accent XDDD

.. Also in sentences, changing STRESS rules will be so odd

Like if some people ask you : " What should we do ?!? " .. Then you said to them : " LET'S read " ..

.. For hearing

They will not act normally, because your STRESS in this sentence was odd and not usual .. And the right way to say it is : " let's READ " ..

.. For hearing

And, in fact, the native English- speakers - while talking - just take care about STRESS .. So, they can understand everything .. Because of the known STRESS rules ..

.. !!! So, if you don't know how to STRESS correctly, they won't understand anything

STRESS, in the first place, is something to learn by hearing native speakers talking .. So, if you want to improve your English-speaking, you have to listen carefully to them - especially British ones - ..

And, if you hear a new word, you have to check its pronunciation in a dictionary .. And you'll find STRESS as a " ' " mark before or after the STRESSed syllable ..

.. And

Can you give some words and sentences from this topic and show the way you STRESS them ^ ^ ?!? ..

( - That's it ( Finally - for me

.. And of course : Questions are allowed

to the man who teached me all this information .. May Allah reward him by blesses and health .. And give him more of his graciousness ..

And so for the clever, creative designer \ Layan 201 for those nice break designs and the banner too .. My Allah give her the same ..

و الحمد لله رب العالمين .. و صلى و سلم على سيدنا و حبيبنا محمد و على آله و صحبه و التابعين لهم بإحسان إلى يوم الدين ..

... \ Best regards and wishes from me .. Ur bro
