Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded
man shall say to his assailant, "If I Live, I will kill you. If I Die, You are forgiven." Such is the Rule of Honor." (Omerta- Lamb of God

so, humm. if i wanna die i will die right here right now fighting you, no fighting any Japanese or Chinese
Mohamed Ali Clay
very nice one. Is it really said by him
WintryLily
29-3-2010, 08:03 PM
well, my brother told me that, and i trust him :p so i am sure :p i will check on google.
.....
yes he did! here is the real one " I ain't draft dodging. I ain't burning no flag. I ain't running to Canada. I'm staying right here. You want to send me to jail? Fine, you go right ahead. I've been in jail for 400 years. I could be there for 4 or 5 more, but I ain't going no 10,000 miles to help murder and kill other poor people. If I want to die, I'll die right here, right now, fightin' you, if I want to die. You my enemy, not no Chinese, no Vietcong, no Japanese. You my opposer when I want freedom. You my opposer when I want justice. You my opposer when I want equality. Want me to go somewhere and fight for you? You won't even stand up for me right here in America, for my rights and my religious beliefs. You won't even stand up for my right here at home. "
i took it from this site

very spectacular.
I never thought he would have said such a thing.
A great person always does great things

1-4-2010, 08:57 PM
ok ^^
here it is : Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without police protection is both. It is as cowardly to betray an offender to justice, even though his offences be against yourself, as it is not to avenge an injury by violence. It is dastardly and contemptible in a wounded man to betray the name of his assailant, because if he recovers, he must naturally expect to take vengeance himself... <3 i love it
Very spectacular. I dought if I can keep it by heart
well, right now I can think of no more idioms.

Nature abhors a vacuum

Two children, something big

Icon06 To take somebody's brains
iconQ Meaning: to find out info about people by asking them
Icon498 Now with some funny proverbs about guests

it is from a song called 321 by scorpions

Put your life into its hand
Close your eyes and it will crush you
Rage only spins you faster
It's a curse born unto man
Turns your dreams into disaster"
another one from the same song ^^
"Lies it's the truth I'm after
Let me find it in your eyes
Quick before the moment dies
Cries in a sea of laughter
Weepin' gently in my soul
Love's the only thing that matters"
i am finally back to post some stuff :D
^_^ Nice one although taken from a song
here is mine. It's old but I hope it's funny

You cannot change who you are.
ÈÓã Çááå
Those 're some idioms. i hope I'm not repeating someone's else post;
1-Put one's foot down : take firm & determined action
2- Put one's best foot forward : proceed as quickly as possible
3- A fool proof: so simple & strong that even a fool can't use it wrongly or break it

.I would like to say thanks to everybody who's participated here so far
and I'm really sorry for being absent for long.
It is true that idioms usually do not receive a big attention
and also they are not a big part of the formal structure
However, they are still a vital part of the language
^^ and we must have a good background about them
Here is a funny idiom which I like very much:
To knock sb's head together
means: To force two people to reach an agreement
... Until next time

That is pretty invigorating !
Though the topic is dusty somehow and there are almost more than 6 months between each two posts
but the topic will last as long as there are alot of pretty expressive sayings you give
thankx X ray
keep being inspiring by such sayings
I will stop by later to see and give some as well
.You're absolutely right
And I would judge it as "rusty" instead XD
.Well. If it is still that informative, useful, and NOT against rules, I recommend you close this thread and open a new one
. And with some rules added for better organization. This topic was my first here and I was inexperienced at all when I started it
.Thank you for stopping by. And I apologize for my endless chatter
